Eligibility Criteria
The Menorah Legacy Foundation supports healthcare and healthcare-related services within the Greater Kansas City Metropolitan Area by focusing Foundation resources on programs, services, research and education that promote and foster healthy living throughout all stages of life, addresses the healthcare needs of the Jewish Community and honors the specific healthcare priorities of individual donor-advised funds.

The Foundation will accept proposals that meet criteria in one or more of the following areas:

continue its commitment to building a healthy community. Its new mission will fulfill that commitment by supporting programs, services, research and education within the Greater Kansas City Metropolitan Area that promote and foster healthy living throughout all stages of life. Proposals are encouraged to demonstrate how the program, service, research or education empowers individuals to actively participate in achieving good health and balance in their lives.

Donor Advised Many of the funds within the Foundation are designated by individuals for use for a limited or restricted purpose. The Foundation will consider proposals that comply with one or more of the following, specific, donor-advised interests in the health care field:
  • Indigent care
  • Research, education, programs or services in the following areas: pediatrics, cardiology, oncology, orthopedics, nursing, occupational therapy, reproductive medicine, CPR training, ophthalmology, hearing, speech, arthritis, and mental health.
  • The health needs of the Jewish community.
Areas Funded:
  • Programs, services, research and education that address a particular community need
  • General operating costs
  • Seed money for innovative programs
  • Capital equipment, preferably if it serves as an integral part of a new program or enhances an organization’s operations
Areas Not Funded
  • Proposals that require program development and implementation by the Foundation
  • Brick and mortar costs
  • General fundraising campaigns
  • Annual meetings
  • Debt reduction
  • Endowments
  • Political campaigns
Grant Proposals Should:
  • Provide a clear description of the need for the project, the target population, service goals, interventions, expected outcomes and appropriate measures of success
  • Provide information on the specific requested amount, the total cost of the project, the project budget, other sources of current and prospective support and a sustainability plan
  • Address emerging trends and issues
  • Demonstrate the capacity to serve the identified population
  • Demonstrate consistency with one or more of the Menorah Legacy Foundation’s funding areas
  • Provide information on collaborations with other agencies
Grant Review Schedule
Grant proposals will be reviewed on a quarterly basis by the Grants Committee and presented for recommendation at each quarterly Board meeting.

Grant Proposal Amounts and Judging Process
There is neither a maximum nor a minimum amount for which grant proposals may be submitted. Proposals will be judged on one or more of the following criteria:
  • Advances the concept of Healthy for Life
  • Best meets a specific, donor-advised interest
  • The significance of the healthcare need
  • The benefits that result from implementing the request
  • The overall impact on the community
  • The number and types of people to be served
